This truck represents something Boom Racing has never offered before. Built on the customizable BRX01 AWB foundation, this build showcases the true flexibility of the platform. Chassis rails, suspension links, gearing, axles, and drivetrain choices come together to create a crawler that feels entirely different from anything we have released before, yet remains unmistakably Boom Racing at its core.

This is not a single-purpose crawler, but a carefully configured build that demonstrates how the BRX01 AWB platform can be tuned for different driving styles, terrains, and intentions, from techical sections to long trail runs.

This special build is based on the BRX01 AWB Link Builder’s Kit [BR8014], and was first unveiled at the RC Rain Forest Challenge (RCRFC) 2025 in Malaysia. That same proven concept is now available as a fully customizable build for serious scale enthusiasts.

Some DIY work is required, including trimming the body cab wheel arches, modifying the tubular aluminum front bumper (optional), and custom-fitting the bed. To achieve this configuration, certain components and setups differ from the standard BRX01 AWB Link Builder’s Kit, including the panhard bar and mount, the rear upper stainless steel links, and rear shock towers.

This custom build is recommended for experienced builders with hands-on DIY fab and custom crawler setups.

This RCRFC build used front and rear BRX90 portal axles, delivering excellent steering angle and strong chassis-end clearance.

A mullet setup (BRX90 straight front / BRX80 portal rear) is also possible. Note that the BRX90 straight axle is slightly wider than the BRX80 portal axle. With BRX90 straight axle up front, EPA adjustment or smaller-diameter tires may be required to avoid interference.

Optional SWD (2/4WD) / DIG T-Case

Want selectable 2WD/4WD, DIG, and overdrive capability? Replace the standard B2X™ transfer case with the optional DIG or SWD (2WD/4WD) transfer case. Both options include an additional mini servo (same size as the kit-included servo) and the optional Mini Servo Mounts (BRLC70223L and BRLC70223A).

The B2X™ and both optional transfer cases are overdrive-ready. Overdrive functionality is enabled using the optional OD Gear Set (BRLC70201-GEAR).

With the OD gear set installed, the front wheels rotate 32% faster than the rear, while the rear axle gains a 42% gear reduction compared to standard transfer case gearing. The result is improved climbing ability, smoother power delivery, and reduced drivetrain load under demanding trail conditions.

Overdrive can also be enabled using our optional HD Keyed Bevel Helical Overdrive Gear + Differential Locker Set (purchased separately):

  • 27/8T (BR955029) approx 10%
If you enjoy trail driving, the SWD transfer case with selectable 2WD/4WD and overdrive gearing gives you maximum flexibility. Run 2WD in high gear on flat terrain, switch to 4WD when extra traction is needed, then gear down for maximum torque when conditions get demanding.

Notes about this custom build
  • To set up the 313 mm (12.3 in) wheelbase, the shortest (standard) rails are used, combined with a pair of 48mm rear upper links, and XL lower link spline shafts. The rear adjustable standard-length rails are set to the shortest length.
  • To improve the approach angle, 10mm is added to all three front stainless steel links. Use one 2mm and one 3mm spacer on each end of all front links.
  • The front axle is pre-built and clocked forward by 10° (one slot) for more aggressive steering performance. Matching 10° reinforced steel axle brackets are used to ensure strength, durability, and long-term reliability.
  • If you choose a front straight / rear portal “mullet” setup, note the slight difference in axle width:
    • BRX90 straight axle: 176 mm
    • BRX80 portal axle: 173.5 mm

Please read before purchase

This is a DIY-focused, custom build and requires hands-on work by the builder:
  • The ZIL Pickup hard body cab needs custom trimming (wheel arches)
  • The optional tubular aluminum front bumper (if used) is cut and modified (for smaller footprint)
  • The rear bed requires some custom fitting (cage provided includes and needs to be mounted onto the rails)
  • The front axle is clocked by 10°, this means the front panhard mount differs from the stock configuration. The panhard bar mounts directly to the axle, using an aluminum spacer. All parts will be provided.

Due to the level of customization involved, this product is intended for semi-advanced to experienced custom truck builders. To avoid buyer's remorse, this product is only recommended to builders who have experience putting together customer crawlers.

This is not a fully finished, out-of-the-box kit. It’s designed for builders who enjoy fabrication, problem-solving, and creating something personal and one-of-a-kind.
