Builder of the Month: Niño Tan (April 2024)

Niño Tan is an expert RC hobbyist from the beautiful Philippines. He stumbled upon Boom Racing products on a local Facebook page and reached out to our colleague Joel Berones to buy a car kit. He was so impressed with the quality of our kit that he ended up buying two more in less than a month! We hope Niño's story will inspire other Filipino RC hobbyists to discover our products and follow their passion for RC.

Boom:

Welcome to the Builder of the Month! Can you tell us about yourself and how you got into the hobby?

Niño:

Hello. I am Niño Tan from the Philippines. I started this hobby way back in 2013. Then, by 2016, I paused for some time because my focus was on mountain biking at that time. Then I shifted to road cycling, duathlon, and triathlon, and then the pandemic/COVID hit. That's the time I got back into the hobby again because I could not do outdoor activities. I was thinking about what to do at home. Then, upon watching YouTube, I scrolled through many YouTube feeds and saw a video on how to build an RC kit. After watching, I decided to try building my first kit, a Tamiya TT02. After that, I enjoyed building kits until now.

Boom:

How did you discover Boom Racing?

Niño:

I've seen this brand in many RC groups but never considered it because I knew it was too expensive. For me, I'd rather buy 2 kits than buy 1. My goal then was to have more kits/RC for my hard-earned money, but suddenly, I realized that I could not use them all at the same time. That's the time I decided to downsize my RC collection. My plan is to sell some crawlers to make way for a new kit, so that's the time I consider buying my first BRX01, but I am still searching and watching reviews from different RC vloggers. When I was about to buy on the website, I remembered Joel Berones. We were in the same group in Messenger. I contacted him and he helped me to decide on what kit to buy and the rest is history.

Boom:

Can you tell us about your Boom Racing vehicles?

Niño:

I have built 2 Boom Racing kits. My first build is a BRX02 Land Rover Series III 109, and the second is the BRX01 LC70. Since I saw the quality of these kits and started building them, I cannot think of any brand of kits that will compare to the quality of these kits. Lots of upgrades that are specifically designed for each model, a great user manual, plus great after-market support and warranty. For me, these kits will never leave my shelves and I will never finish building them by adding more scale touches and accessories.

Boom:

Are there any future Boom Racing builds you are planning?

Niño:

I want to build another BRX01 with the G Wagon Benz body or BRX02 with the Range Rover body. I also want to build my own camel trophy version of the Range Rover.

Boom:

Where do you draw your inspiration from when you are building?

Niño:

I usually get my inspiration from fellow RC builders, then make it my own style of build, sometimes searching online, and some 1:1 4x4 builds.

Boom:

What is the RC community like in the area you live?

Niño:

RC community here is big with bashers, scale crawlers, gassers, nitro, planes, boats you name it. But since I saw the quality of BRX01 and BRX02, Joel Berones and I want to make the Boom Racing BRX01 and BRX02 community more alive and active. Hopefully in time we will make this community grow here in the Philippines.

Boom:

What cars or upgrades do you hope to see Boom Racing make next?

Niño:

As of now, all of the upgrades and parts that Boom Racing makes for their kits are great and very scale. I want to see a Boom Racing BRX01 or BRX02 Toyota Hilux pickup in the future.

Boom:

Do you have any tips or advice for others in the hobby?

Niño:

My advice is just to do what you love and never stop playing. Let's help the RC community by sharing what we learn and what we can still learn.
